Therapy and support groups for new moms in Nashville

Two things, and you can take either one first. Therapy with a clinician who specializes in new motherhood — in person at our Metrocenter office or by video. And a free online support group for new and expecting moms, so you’re not the only one saying it out loud.

A care navigator reaches out within an hour during business hours; first sessions are usually within five days.

Therapy for new moms

PMH-C credentialed therapists who work perinatal mental health on purpose — postpartum depression and anxiety, intrusive thoughts, birth trauma, rage, and the identity shift no one warned you about. In person at Metrocenter, or by video anywhere in Tennessee. Babies are welcome in the room.

New Mom Support Group

A peer-led hour with other moms in the same season — the joy, the grief, the boredom and the overwhelm, all in the same conversation. Online by secure video, bi-weekly, 1 hour. No membership, no referral, and you don’t have to be a Mamaya client.

  • • Free to join
  • • Pregnancy through the first year
  • • Join from home — camera on or off

Most women do both, and the order doesn’t matter. The group is free and meets bi-weekly, so it’s often the thing you can get to first — therapy is where the specific work happens.

Getting there with a baby

Our Nashville office is at 1 Vantage Way, Suite E130, Nashville, TN 37228 — Metrocenter, Building E at the back of the lot. Free parking at the door, a wheelchair-accessible entrance, a quiet waiting area, and a nursing chair on request. If the drive is the barrier, every therapist here also sees clients by video.

More on the office, including what to expect at a first visit, is on the Metrocenter page. South of the city, we also see clients at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic.

Common questions

Is there a support group for new moms in Nashville?
Yes. Mamaya Health runs a free online support group for new and expecting moms — peer-led, bi-weekly, one hour. It meets by secure video, so Nashville moms join from home during a nap without packing a diaper bag, and moms outside Nashville can join too. There's no membership, no card, and you don't have to be a Mamaya client.
Can I see a therapist in person in Nashville, or is it all virtual?
Both. Our Metrocenter office at 1 Vantage Way is set up for this season — free parking at the door, a quiet waiting area, and a nursing chair on request — and babies are welcome in the room. If getting out of the house is the hard part, the same therapists see clients by video anywhere in Tennessee.
Do I need a postpartum depression diagnosis to come?
No. Most of the new moms we see aren't in crisis — they're anxious, exhausted, angry at people they love, grieving who they used to be, or unable to stop the intrusive what-if thoughts. Those are the reasons to come, not reasons to wait. If it is postpartum depression or postpartum anxiety, our therapists are PMH-C credentialed and treat it every day.
Does insurance cover therapy for new moms?
We're in-network with BCBS of Tennessee, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Optum, UMR, Magellan, TRICARE and VA Community Care, so most Nashville moms pay a copay. Self-pay and a sliding scale are available if you'd rather not use insurance. The support group is free either way.
How fast can I be seen?
A care navigator reaches out within an hour during business hours, and first sessions are usually within five days. The support group meets bi-weekly, so it's often the thing you can get to first.
