How billing works

  1. 1

You give us your plan details when you book

Your BCBS member ID and date of birth are enough to start. We confirm your mental-health benefits before the first session.

  2. 2

    We bill BlueCross BlueShield directly

Because we're in-network, the claim goes to BCBS from us. You don't file anything or wait for a reimbursement.

  3. 3

You pay your plan's share at the visit

That's a copay, or coinsurance if your deductible hasn't been met yet. It's the same structure as any other in-network specialist visit.

  4. 4

Your explanation of benefits arrives from BCBS

It shows what was billed, what BCBS paid, and what counted toward your deductible. If anything looks off, send it to us and we'll sort it out with them.

What a copay usually looks like

Most BCBS of Tennessee plans treat an outpatient therapy visit like any other in-network specialist visit: a set copay each session, or coinsurance until your deductible is met. Some plans cover behavioral health with no deductible at all.

We won’t quote you a dollar figure here, because the number depends on your specific plan — two people with the same BCBS card can owe different amounts. The fastest way to know yours is to ask BCBS what you pay for outpatient mental health by telehealth, or to let us verify it for you before your first session.

If you’d rather not use insurance at all, self-pay and a sliding scale are always available.

Common questions

Does BCBS of Tennessee cover online therapy?
Yes. BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee plans cover outpatient mental-health visits, including telehealth sessions with an in-network provider, and Mamaya Health is in-network. What you pay is set by your own plan — usually a copay per session, or coinsurance until your deductible is met.
How do I check my coverage?
Call the member-services number on the back of your BCBS card and ask what your plan pays for outpatient mental-health visits by telehealth. You can also give us your plan details when you book, and we'll confirm your benefits with BCBS before your first session so there are no surprises.
Do you take Aetna, Cigna, or UnitedHealthcare?
Yes — Aetna, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare are all in-network, along with Optum, UMR, Magellan, Meritain, Allied Benefit Systems, TRICARE and VA Community Care. If your plan isn't on that list, we offer self-pay and a sliding scale, and we'll give you a superbill to send your insurer.
