Psychiatric medication management at Mamaya
Is medication right for you?

Not everyone needs it. For those who do, it can change everything.

Mental health medication, prescribed well, is one of the most effective interventions in modern psychiatry — and one of the most under-used in women’s mental health, because women have historically been dismissed, under-medicated, or shuttled to medications that weren’t designed with them in mind.

Our team is built differently. PMHNP-credentialed providers who treat women across the reproductive life-cycle — and who treat you like the expert on your own experience.

What you get

More than a prescription.

01

Individualized assessment

Your provider takes a full history — symptoms, medical context, prior trials, side effects, what you actually want from medication. Goal: a plan that fits the life you're living.

02

Ongoing monitoring

Regular check-ins to make sure the plan is working. Adjust dose, switch agents, or step down when ready. We don't set-it-and-forget-it.

03

Coordinated care

Your psychiatric NP works directly with your therapist (and your OB or PCP when relevant) so the same care team is moving you forward, not three siloed providers.

04

Honest education

What's actually known about side effects, what's myth, what to expect in the first 4–6 weeks. Plain-spoken, no fear-mongering, no oversell.

FAQs

Honest answers.

Do I have to be in therapy to get medication management?+
No — it's not required. But many clients find that combining therapy with medication leads to faster, more durable results. Medication can lift the floor enough to make therapy work better.
How do I know if I should consider medication?+
If you've been navigating ongoing anxiety, depression, irritability, sleep disruption, or emotional overwhelm — especially when therapy and self-care alone aren't moving the needle — medication is worth a conversation. Your provider will help you decide.
What insurance do you take?+
We're in-network in Tennessee with Aetna, Cigna, and BCBS for medication management. Self-pay rates apply where we're not contracted: $175 initial intake, $125 ongoing visits.
What happens at the first appointment?+
60 minutes with a licensed psychiatric nurse practitioner. They take a full history (symptoms, medical, family, lifestyle, goals), discuss treatment options including non-medication approaches, and — if medication makes sense — start a plan. No pressure to commit before you're ready.
Will I be on medication forever?+
Not necessarily. Some clients use medication short-term for a stabilization window. Others benefit from long-term support. The plan adjusts as you do.
What about pregnancy or breastfeeding?+
Our PMHNP team specializes in perinatal psychiatry. We discuss the actual evidence on each medication during pregnancy and lactation — risks of treatment vs risks of untreated mental illness — and build a plan with your OB.
What about perimenopause and menopause?+
Hormonal shifts in midlife destabilize the same neurotransmitter systems SSRIs target. We treat the mood/anxiety symptoms of this transition — and coordinate with your reproductive endocrinologist or OB-GYN where HRT is part of the plan.
How do I request my medical records?+
We use ChartRequest to process all medical records requests. Submit your request directly at app.chartrequest.com/p/l/MamayaHealth. Standard fees may apply — see ChartRequest’s FAQ for details on timing, formats, and fees.
