Online therapy in Texas that takes Blue Cross Blue Shield

Mamaya Health provides online therapy across Texas and is in-network with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Our therapists specialize in women's mental health — postpartum, pregnancy, perimenopause, anxiety — and every session is by secure video, so it works the same from Houston, Dallas, Austin or a town with no specialist for a hundred miles.

How billing works

  1. 1

You give us your plan details when you book

Your BCBSTX member ID and date of birth are enough to start. We confirm your mental-health benefits before the first session.

  2. 2

    We bill BCBSTX directly

Because we're in-network, the claim goes to your plan from us. You don't file anything or wait for a reimbursement.

  3. 3

You pay your plan's share at the visit

That's a copay, or coinsurance if your deductible hasn't been met yet. It's the same structure as any other in-network specialist visit.

  4. 4

Your explanation of benefits arrives from your plan

It shows what was billed, what your plan paid, and what counted toward your deductible. If anything looks off, send it to us and we'll sort it out with them.

Texas is telehealth-only for us — we have no Texas office — and your therapist holds a Texas license, which is a legal requirement for care where you live. Psychiatric medication management is currently Tennessee-only, so in Texas we coordinate with your own prescriber rather than leaving the two halves of your care unconnected.

What a copay usually looks like

Most Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas plans treat an outpatient therapy visit like any other in-network specialist visit: a set copay each session, or coinsurance until your deductible is met. Some plans cover behavioral health with no deductible at all.

We won’t quote you a dollar figure here, because the number depends on your specific plan — two people with the same card can owe different amounts. The fastest way to know yours is to ask your plan what you pay for outpatient mental health by telehealth, or to let us verify it for you before your first session.

If you’d rather not use insurance at all, self-pay and a sliding scale are always available.

Common questions

Does Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas cover online therapy?
Yes. BCBSTX plans cover outpatient mental-health visits, including telehealth with an in-network provider, and Mamaya Health is in-network. What you pay is set by your own plan — usually a copay per session, or coinsurance until your deductible is met.
How do I check my coverage?
Call the member-services number on the back of your BCBSTX card and ask what your plan pays for outpatient mental health by telehealth. You can also give us your plan details when you book and we'll verify your benefits before the first session, so there are no surprises.
Do I have to live in a big city to be seen?
No. Every Texas session is by secure video, so where you live only matters for licensure — your therapist is licensed in Texas and can see you anywhere in the state. Evenings are available, which is usually the bigger obstacle.
Do you take Aetna, Cigna, or UnitedHealthcare in Texas?
Yes — Aetna, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare are all in-network, along with Optum, UMR, Magellan, Meritain, Allied Benefit Systems, TRICARE and VA Community Care. If your plan isn't on that list, we offer self-pay and a sliding scale, and we'll give you a superbill to send your insurer.
