Does Mamaya take my insurance?
Most likely, yes. We’re in network with most major commercial plans across Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Georgia, and Kentucky, with three TennCare plans in Tennessee, and with TRICARE and VA Community Care. Telehealth is covered the same as in person. If we’re not in network with your plan, there’s a sliding scale.
We check your benefits before your first session and tell you what you’ll pay — you shouldn’t have to find that out from a bill.

The questions people actually ask
- Does insurance cover therapy at Mamaya?
- Yes, for most people. We are in network with most major commercial plans across Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Georgia, and Kentucky, and telehealth visits are covered the same way as in-person ones. What you pay depends on your own plan's copay, coinsurance and deductible — we check your benefits before your first session and tell you the number, so there is no surprise afterwards.
- Do you accept TennCare or Medicaid?
- Yes, in Tennessee. We are in network with three TennCare (Medicaid) plans — BlueCare, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan and Wellpoint — and we have openings right now.
- What will therapy actually cost me with insurance?
- Usually a copay, the same kind you pay to see any specialist. If your plan has a deductible you have not met, you may pay the contracted rate until you meet it. We verify your benefits before the first appointment and tell you what to expect rather than letting you find out from a bill.
- What if I do not have insurance, or you are not in network with mine?
- You can pay privately, and we have a sliding scale based on household income and size. Ask when you get in touch — it is a short conversation, not an application, and nobody is turned away for asking.
- Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
- Yes. Therapy and psychiatric medication management are eligible medical expenses, so an HSA or FSA card works the same as any other card. Keep the receipt we send for your records.
- Can you give me a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement?
- Yes. A superbill is an itemised receipt with the diagnosis and procedure codes your insurer needs. You submit it to your plan and they reimburse you directly at whatever your out-of-network benefit is. Ask us and we will send one after each session or monthly, whichever you prefer.
- Is online therapy covered the same as in-person?
- Yes, by every plan we are in network with. Telehealth parity is standard now, and the large majority of our care is delivered this way — including to women in parts of Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Georgia and Kentucky with no perinatal specialist within driving distance.
- What is the difference between in-network and out-of-network?
- In network means we have a contract with your insurer and they have agreed a rate, so you pay a copay. Out of network means no contract — you pay our rate and claim some of it back from your plan with a superbill. We are in network with most major commercial plans, so for most women this does not come up.
- Is postpartum depression treatment covered?
- Yes. Perinatal mental health conditions are treated like any other covered diagnosis — there is no separate benefit and no special authorisation. You do not need a referral from your OB-GYN to start, though we are glad to coordinate with them.
- Do I need a referral or a diagnosis to start?
- No. You can book directly, and you do not need to have decided what is wrong before you come. Working that out is part of the first session.
