About
Hi! My name is Alyssa Asmo, and I am a master’s student at Vanderbilt University in the dual track School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and strive to create a space where everyone feels safe and welcome. I draw from Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients better understand themselves, navigate difficult emotions, and build lives that feel more aligned with who they are and what matters to them. I have a background in teaching, and as part of my program I have spent a significant amount of time in the Nashville public school systems interning as a school counselor. Through this I have gained experience working with children and teenagers as they navigate crises, periods of change, uncertainty, and growth. I help support individuals who are navigating trauma, stress and anxiety, identity, major life transitions, relationship concerns, depression, disordered eating & body image, and religious trauma. I’m passionate about women’s mental health and supporting individuals through the perinatal and postpartum periods, especially those navigating OCD and/or postpartum OCD. I strongly believe in breaking down the stigma and shame that often surrounds perinatal and postpartum mental health, which is why I strive to create a warm, judgment free space where everyone can feel safe being honest about their experiences.
